OPENING: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
(Full-time beginning May 1, 2023)
Responsibilities
Head-Royce School is seeking an experienced Director of Finance (Finance Director) to oversee all financial aspects of business and drive the Schools financial strategy and planning. This candidate will be responsible for assessing the financial performance of the School as well as possible risks and investments. A director of finance is a reliable professional with broad knowledge of all accounting, financial and business principles. They are strategic thinkers and effective leaders who can make the most profitable decisions. Reporting to the Chief Financial Operating Officer (CFOO), this position is the primary liaison with our Finance Committee. The Director of Finance has three direct reports – the AP/Payroll Manager, AR Manager and Senior Accountant.
Job Responsibilities/Expectations
Drive the financial planning of the School by analyzing its performance and risks
Retain constant awareness of the Schools financial position and act to prevent problems
Manage and oversee the Schools finance IT system (Blackbaud)
Set targets for and supervise all accounting and finance personnel
Oversee all audit and internal control operations
Develop the corporate fundraising strategy and manage relationships with partners and investors
Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a quarterly and annual basis
Conduct analysis for forecasting
Ensure adherence to financial laws and guidelines
Finance and Retirement Investment Committee member
Qualifications
Proven experience as director of finance or similar role
In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws and best practices
Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting
An analytical mind with a strategic ability
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus
CPA or other relevant qualification is a plus
Minimum three years experience in independent school or similar environment.
Work within a community that expects collegiality and open communication.
Able to maintain confidentiality.
Skills
Prior experience working in a similar capacity within a school environment is strongly preferred
Comfortable working in and with diverse student and adult populations.
Proficient within the Mac and Google Suite environment, using databases.
Self-motivated, excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines required.
Prior experience experience with management
Other Requirements
Must be fully vaccinated (and boosted) against Covid-19 and show proof of negative TB test within the last four years in addition to participation in background screening.
Other Considerations
Compensation: $145,000-170,000
