Title: Accounting Manager

Position Status: 40 hours per week. Salaried, exempt, year-long position

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accounting Manager will be an important member of the Business Office overseeing the daily activities with a focus on ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.  Working under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager develops and implements internal controls, understands and applies GAAP and non-profit accounting, maintains the general ledger, reviews and analyzes finances, ensures compliance with regulations, and works closely with budget managers to provide accurate and complete financial reporting.  The Accounting Manager’s goal is to create systems and processes for analyzing, reporting and following legal requirements while also making recommendations for improvements.  This is all performed all while verifying the integrity and accuracy of financial operations and safeguarding organizational assets.  The individual should be a highly motivated self-starter, great interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, strong management and organizational skills and a strong understanding of non-profit accounting principles, standards and regulations.  The responsibilities of this role may be modified due to software upgrades the Business Office is currently upgrading. Annual Salary Range: $100,000-$125,000

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and taxes
Manage full cycle AR for all billing and cash receipts for the School and PA
Prepare and oversee month and year-end close for financial reporting
Assess current practices and procedures, and make recommendations for improvements
Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
Perform balance sheet reconciliations, monthly budget reports and ad hoc reporting, as requested
Supervise and/or manage general ledger accounting functions and processes
Partner with budget managers and stakeholders including, but not limited to provide accounting education to support budget managers, maintain strong employee relationships, and assist with timely and accurate financial reporting.
Work with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end

 

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor Degree or Equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
5+ years of accounting and payroll experience required; non-profit sector preferred.
2-3 years hands on functional Payroll experience OR equivalent.
Detailed knowledge of US Federal, State and local payroll tax laws.
Strong working knowledge of ERISA, HIPPA, FMLA, Workers’ Compensation, FLSA, and ADA.
Strong planning, organizational and time management skills, as well as attention to detail and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to communicate information clearly written and oral.
Excellent knowledge of Payroll/HRIS systems.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Excel and Word.
Ability and desire to work independently and as a team member with the community and other employees.
Positive, upbeat and enthusiastic about working in a non-profit environment.
