PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Athenian School is seeking a full-time shop manager to teach and supervise learning spaces that support Carter Innovation Studio (CIS) users across the Athenian School. Successful candidates will have demonstrated the capabilities to  ensure that all proposed programming and associated projects are adequately supported and executed through safe best practices, maintain a presence within CIS, and supervise the safe operation of machinery and capacity rules. Such candidates will also contribute meaningfully to the Athenian community and find ways to express our mission and values in the CIS studio. In addition to instruction, staff at Athenian are expected to participate in community life through a variety of programs, events, and ongoing learning opportunities.

We are looking for candidates that have expertise and knowledge of best practices with the studios’ tools, technology, maintenance, materials, and processes while upholding a safe and equitable professional studio culture for a diverse body of students, staff, and faculty. The CIS Studio Manager is responsible for delivering Safety Orientation and Training to all shop users of the CIS and Athenian community members, act as an instructional resource by promoting student creativity and building  professional development sessions, as well as provide technical demonstrations for all shop resources within the CIS. They will also engage with and support students who serve as CIS interns and CIS community service students.

In addition to the role in the Carter, candidates will be responsible for the safety, set design, and  construction in the theater. This includes teaching the theater tech’s build cohort three times per each week, scheduling and attendance of all theater build sessions, ordering build materials, and delivering mandatory safety training.

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. The salary for this role will range from $65,000 – $85,000. Additionally, Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center.

All employees participate in school wide professional development, and have the opportunity to pursue a range of additional professional growth opportunities. These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.

All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor.
