Redwood Day School

Job Description
We are seeking culturally competent Teaching Assistants in Kindergarten – Third grades to work with a dedicated and diverse group of faculty and students. Teaching Assistants partner with a mentor teacher to learn about classroom management strategies, curriculum design, project-based instruction, learning differences, progress report writing, differentiated instruction, handling parent/guardian communication, etc. They also assist with clerical tasks (copying, set up, clean up, bulletin boards, etc.), and participate in recess/lunch duties, parent/guardian-teacher-student conferences, and a few evening events such as the Science Fair. Teaching Assistants help out with several weeks of after-school study hall (3:30 – 4:30 p.m.) during the year, attend Teaching Assistant meetings (during the school day), Wednesday faculty meetings (3:45 – 5:00 p.m.), and participate in school-sponsored professional development days. Teaching Assistants are expected to substitute for their mentor teachers, and occasionally other lower school faculty, when they are temporarily absent for illness or other reasons.

Schedule and Hours
Teaching Assistants will begin mid-August 2021. Daily hours are Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Wed 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Desired Qualifications and Traits

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Enrollment in (or completion of) a professional teacher training program (e.g. BATTI – Bay Area Teachers Training Institute) or other Master’s program
  • Commitment to working in a diverse learning environment that necessitates flexibility, professional behavior, a positive attitude, and a desire to enhance professional growth
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Compensation/Benefits
