Job Description:

The 7-8th Grade English Teacher will oversee the development and delivery of the 8th grade English curriculum and partner closely with the other middle school English teachers to develop and curate a comprehensive, effective, and cohesive 6-8th grade English curriculum. The teaching load consists of three sections of 8th grade English and one section of 7th grade English. The teaching load may include an Advanced Topics course for 8th grade students in later school years. The ideal candidate will have experience working with middle school students and appreciate the opportunity to work with this age-group that is experiencing lots of transitions in three short years. They will also be a strong collaborator with other teachers and community members, have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiated instruction, and an interest in building a community.

 

As a teacher in the Middle School, this individual will also serve as an advisor, facilitate an elective activity, and participate in various student and community activities and professional development. Additional responsibilities include active involvement in collaborative teacher meetings, supervisory duties, and accompanying students on an annual outdoor education trip.

 

This is a full-time position, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays for faculty/staff meetings) beginning in August 2024.

 

Essential Requirements:

∙           Bachelor of Arts

∙           Three to five years classroom teaching experience in English Language Arts, especially at the middle school level

∙           Natural rapport with children and strong classroom management skills

∙           Excellent written and oral communication skills

 

Desired Qualifications and Traits:

∙           Masters’ Degree in specific subject area, Masters in Education, or teaching credential

∙           Experience with project-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching

∙           A growth mindset and flexibility to adapt

 

 

Pay Scale:

Redwood Day uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill  level.  The anticipated salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the full-time position of 7th/8th Grade EnglishTeacher is between $66,352 and $103,916.
