Located fifteen minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Mill Valley, Mount Tamalpais School (MTS) is a k-8 co-educational independent day school serving 240 students. Mount Tamalpais School seeks a Middle School Music and Performing Arts teacher starting August 2023.  This person will work with dedicated colleagues and a dynamic leadership team to develop music and performing arts skills, social-emotional skills, critical thinking, and self-confidence within our students. This person will empower our musicians and performing artists and fuel their wonders, big dreams, and artistic prowess.

The ideal candidate will have teaching experience and a B.A./B.S. in a relevant field. A successful candidate in this position will:

-Exhibit a passion for content knowledge and a range of effective pedagogical approaches for the subject and age group.
-Demonstrate commitment to equitable and culturally responsive teaching practices
-Cultivate an inclusive, collaborative, and challenging learning environment that reflects the MTS values and allows a diverse student body to grow and thrive
-Integrate technology in effective ways that enhance students’ learning experiences and growth
-Show initiative in seeking out opportunities for professional growth, leadership, and community building

This teacher will:

Partner with the Production Team to oversee the successful completion of our two major Musicals as well as Concerts and Recitals.
-Lead the set up of music-side of productions, concerts, and recitals
-Work with Performing Arts team on all shows including musicals, concerts, recitals, graduation
Lead the musical direction of two Musicals each year
-Direct the musical side of the shows
-Hire and conduct the orchestra
-Play piano in rehearsals
-Lead school choirs, vocal warmups, and vocal coaching
Middle School Music teacher
-Teach Middle School music classes
-Teach choral and vocal ensemble “enrichment” classes for middle school students
-Assist with our growing band program

Salary will be determined by education and years of experience and will range from $75,000 – $110,000
