Sonoma Country Day School

Sonoma Country Day School is a transitional kindergarten through eighth grade independent, coed day school located in California’s wine country. Job description: We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual who loves working with children and values the unique contributions of each child in our school community. At Sonoma Country Day School we create the environment to teach and model integrity in personal behavior, tolerance and respect in interpersonal relations, engagement in learning, and the pursuit of each child’s capacity for excellence. The applicant should have a strong background in current best practices relating to Humanities and be able to apply these to teaching. Strong communication skills with parents and students and the ability to collaborate with other members of the faculty are a must. Creating a warm, engaging classroom environment in combination with an academically demanding curriculum are vitally important parts of our program.

Applicants should have 3-5 years teaching experience with middle school students, preferably at an independent school; hold a B.A./B.S. degree in English or history with significant coursework in the writing process. An advanced degree in English or history is highly preferable. Strong interpersonal skills, a good sense of humor, and flexibility are essential.

This is a 70% position. Hours are minimally 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a weekly faculty meeting until 4:30 although team planning meetings may require additional time. Occasional evening and weekend commitments are required throughout the school year as well. There may also be an opportunity to supplement this position with other duties based on your experiences.

The start date for this position is August 13, 2018.

Salary:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
