Redwood Day School

Job Description and Desired Qualifications

The Middle School Art Teacher will design and execute a robust visual arts curriculum for our 6-8 students, that is innovative, creative, and encourages the artistic side of each of our students. The ideal candidate will have experience in a variety of artistic media, styles, and approaches, including two-dimensional fundamentals utilizing drawing and painting skills, and three-dimensional mixed media concepts and design. This teacher will have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiation of instruction, a collaborative spirit, and an interest in building a community. This individual should have a strong art teaching background, experience with multicultural education, and an appreciation for the middle school mindset and experience. Additional responsibilities include active involvement in student advisory, student activities, collaborative teacher meetings, supervisory duties and outdoor education trips.

This is a full-time position, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays)

Perform all other assigned school-related duties (e.g. recess supervision, meetings, etc.)

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Arts in Visual Arts (or Comparable Degree)
  • Classroom teaching experience, especially at the middle school level
  • Candidate must have a natural rapport with children and good classroom management skills.

 

Desired Qualifications and Traits:

  • Teaching credential or Masters Degree (MM) (preferred)
  • Personal experience as a working artist
