Redwood Day

Redwood Day’s K-8 program includes over 380 students all learning together on our 4-acre campus in the heart of Oakland. Everything we do is designed to keep every child engaged and growing. Job Description and Desired Qualifications

We are seeking a dynamic, long-term K-5 substitute science teacher who has experience with inquiry- and lab-based curriculum is committed to academic excellence. Desired qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, a natural rapport with children and good classroom management skills. The ideal candidate will also have lead-classroom teaching experience, an understanding of the social needs of K-5 students, strong communication and organizational skills, and a motivation to work with a strong existing team.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining and preparing science instruction in a dedicated K-5 science lab for each class twice every six-day cycle (total of 24 classes per cycle),
  • Collaborating with grade-level teachers and various specialists on interdisciplinary projects and units, including the K-4 Science Fair
  • Updating parents about the K-5 happenings in science class on the dedicated science lab web page, and in the monthly newsletter
  • Performing all other assigned school-related duties (e.g. final progress reports, recess supervision, meetings).

Schedule and Hours:

The teaching workday is 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5 p.m. on Wednesdays). This is a long-term substitute/leave replacement position beginning April 22 and ending  June 12, 2019.
