The Nueva School

The Nueva School

Full-time, Combined Kindergarten Aide and Aftercare Teacher

The Position (Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6:00pm)

Nueva seeks a dynamic Kindergarten Aide and After-care Lead Teacher who loves working with children, communicating with parents, and delivering student-centered curriculum. The ideal candidate has experience working with students, a warm and inviting demeanor, and a love of learning.

Kindergarten Aide (9:30-3:45)

The kindergarten program provides a balance of academics, intellectual challenge, and play. Children are exposed to rich content and intellectual stimulation, while having opportunities to learn as young children learn best, through play and exploration. Using a constructivist approach, each classroom’s Lead and Associate teachers provide opportunities for children to discover their own answers about the world rather than simply giving the answers. The kindergarten aide will support the program and the Lead and Associate teachers through the following means:

  • Support the philosophical foundation of Nueva’s Kindergarten program
  • Accompany students to Specialists and assist with activities
  • Help with the set up and clean-up of instructional activities
  • Create a dynamic, interactive classroom environment by assisting with cleaning and material preparation
  • Assist in the implementation of curriculum through large and small group work
  • Support the Lead and Associate Teachers with classroom management
  • Attend yard duty during recesses, reinforcing safety agreements and supporting children through conflict resolution
  • Manage hot lunch distribution
  • Assist during afternoon choice activities
  • Deliver students to afterschool locations

Since Kindergarten Aides spend much of the day with the students, including non-academic times like lunch and recess, they often mitigate the social and emotional situations that are an essential piece of each child’s education. With the Lead and Associate Teachers, Social Emotional Learning teacher, and administrators as resources, the Kindergarten Aide is expected to facilitate conflict resolution and offer individual support to students in need and to maintain clear and consistent communication with the Lead Teacher around these interactions. Kindergarten Aides become members of the Nueva community of educators, one defined by collaboration, inquiry, and excellent teaching.

Aftercare Teacher (3:45-6:00)

Nueva’s aftercare program, designed to meet the needs of the whole child, provides a safe, comfortable, and enriching space for students to participate in a wide range of activities including child-centered project work, indoor and outdoor games, and arts and crafts. After-care offerings align with and extend Nueva’s commitment to providing and experience that inspires passion for lifelong learning, fosters social and emotional acuity, and develops the imaginative mind. The aftercare teacher will:

  • Develop a positive culture and warm after-care classroom climate
  • Create and implement student-centered curriculum, providing inquiry-based learning opportunities
  • Facilitate indoor and outdoor games and arts and crafts choices
  • Coordinate drop off and pick up to and from afterschool enrichment classes, buses, and additional events
  • Maintain timely and professional communication with teachers, parents, colleagues, and students
  • Maintain care for classroom and materials
  • Participate in planning meetings and support preparation of after-care offerings
  • Contribute to preparation and clean-up of after-care classroom

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with students, parents, faculty and staff
  • Welcoming demeanor
  • Openness to feedback
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
