Horizon Community School is the result of an innovative partnership among Marin Horizon School, Sausalito Marin City School District and other community organizations. The Marin City campus opened its doors to an inaugural class of 12 two-year-olds on August 23, 2017. Honoring Marin Horizon School and SMSD respecting diversity in the community and the world, Horizon Community School satisfies a growing need for quality early childhood education in an underserved community of Marin County.

Horizon Community School believes that education is a cooperative endeavor/partnership between families and educators, and this special program features monthly family activities and educational programs to promote play, learning, and healthy routines both at school and at home.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Horizon Community School seeks an experienced and visionary pre-kindergarten teacher to foster and facilitate the intellectual and social development of the children. Horizon Community School, located in Marin City California, is a progressive Early Childhood Education Program with 64 preschoolers and plans to add more students over the next couple of years.

The curriculum is “Montessori inspired” and features an exceptionally strong child focused curriculum.

Language development, movement, social emotional learning, cultural awareness, and pre-academic skills as we prepare students for Kindergarten.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum, Materials, and Classroom Management

  • Creating a child-centered, responsive prepared environment filled with experiential learning materials
  • Adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
  • Collaborating with team/colleagues to create lesson plans
  • Meeting with parents and guardians to discuss their child’s progress, and to determine their priorities for their child and the child’s resource needs
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served
  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures
  • Design and follow a complete teaching plan
  • Organize learning material and resources
  • Maintain an open line of communication with parents and provide appropriate information
  • Monitor children’s interactions and nurture cooperation and sharing
  • Cooperate with administration staff
  • Follow and comply with teaching standards and safety regulations

Parent Education, Meetings, and Conferences

  • Assist in the development of and participates in school functions, including but not limited to open houses, orientation meetings, parent education, and school-wide activities
  • Prepare documents and reports necessary to facilitate parent teacher conferences or other meetings requested by parents or school administration

Record-Keeping and Data Assessment

  • Assess students regularly and analyze student results, both individually and in a collaborative cycle of inquiry with colleagues and administrators.
  • Meet reporting deadlines
  • Participate in all assessment-related trainings
  • Prepare student progress reports and assessment reports as required by administration
  • Coordinate with before- and after-school staff to ensure appropriate, personalized, and consistent out-of-school time services.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • 24 ECE units required;
  • 3-5 years related experience and training
  • Sensitive to the needs of children from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Critical thinking and conflict resolution skills

Salary

$25.00-$30.00 per hour
