Urban School of San Francisco seeks a History Teacher to teach 9th grade world history, 10th/11th grade American History and upper-level electives such as Globalization, South Asian History, and/or other courses based on knowledge and experience. Expertise in non-U.S. [or non-Western] history is preferred but not required. This is a part-time position, consisting of teaching 7 sections (approximately 78% of a FT role) across three terms. The school is looking for a dynamic, creative teacher who has enthusiasm for working with high school students, a commitment to innovative pedagogy and collaboration with colleagues, comfort and familiarity with the use of relevant technology to enhance learning, and a commitment to equity pedagogy, antiracist teaching practices, and to their own continued professional growth. Ideal candidates should have curriculum development experience and at least two years’ experience teaching history or social studies at the secondary level.

At Urban, we want and expect our students to be active historians. Several courses are taught exclusively through documents from the era, and in all our classes, students develop their own analytical ideas through abundant writing and discussion. We are committed to depth of understanding by teaching topic-defined classes that allow intensive study of critical periods.
