Position: Suzuki Violin Teacher, Crowden Community Programs
Reports To: Director of Suzuki Program
Start Date: Fall 2025
Status: Part Time
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Crowden Music Center is seeking a dynamic and skilled Suzuki Violin teacher with an understanding of and passion for teaching music students. The Suzuki Violin Teacher will join the Suzuki teaching team and be responsible for designing and directing Suzuki Violin individual lessons and group classes appropriate to the needs of musically-minded and inquisitive students.
The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise and enthusiasm for the subject matter, strong classroom management skills, and a willingness to work as part of a team. Curriculum is expected to be developmentally-appropriate, grounded in Suzuki Violin music tradition, and with an awareness of the cultural diversity reflected in the student body and the larger community.
The Suzuki lessons and classes will consist of students aged 3.5 and upward. All students enrolled in Crowden’s Suzuki program participate in one individual lesson and one group class per week. The teaching schedule varies, and can be adjusted if necessary for the right candidate. Additional classes may be added depending on demand and teacher availability.
In addition to weekly lessons and classes, the Suzuki Violin Faculty is expected to attend periodic faculty, planning meetings, and concerts.
OUR PROGRAM:
Crowden Music Center is a non-profit organization that combines music and education to nurture, develop, and inspire students of all ages. Altogether, Crowden serves an annual audience of 12,000 with a rich array of music classes, workshops, events, and concerts.
The Crowden School is the flagship program of the Crowden Music Center. The Crowden School, founded in 1983 by Scottish violinist Anne Crowden, is a coeducational day school for grades K-8, provides a distinguished education with chamber music at the core.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach weekly private lessons and group class(es)
- Attend and assist in Suzuki Concerts as well as Solo Recitals
- Attend and participate actively in department faculty meetings with a spirit of collaboration
- Prepare students in their private lessons not only on their progression through solo repertoire but also preparing them for their group class repertoire
- Collaborate with students’ parents to care for their child as a whole individual through their musical pursuits
- Create an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment where each student is celebrated.
- Be attuned to the specific learning needs and social and emotional development of each student
- Employ age-appropriate lesson/classroom management techniques
- Communicate effectively with students and parents
- Maintain professional standards of conduct, respect, and collegiality
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Significant experience teaching young students beginning up through the later Suzuki books
- Completed Suzuki Teacher training (ideally through Book 4 or higher but will consider candidates who have only completed ECC and Book 1 if they are planning to complete more in the near future)
- Professional-level proficiency on their instrument with bachelor’s degree in music performance, music education, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent musicianship and artistry as a music educator.
- Experience working with all ages, and a passion for interacting with students inside and outside of the classroom.
- Strong knowledge of developmentally-appropriate pedagogy and repertoire.
- A commitment to collaborating with colleagues to build and sustain the school community.
- Excellent communication skills and commitment to keeping parents informed and engaged.
- A sense of humor and a “can-do” attitude.
- Employment dependent on satisfactory completion of background check and TB test.

Salary Information – $67 per hour for individual Suzuki Violin lessons and $86 per hour for group Suzuki Violin classes.
