Mathematics Instructor

The Bay School math program employs a pedagogical approach that incorporates inquiry-based practices and real-world applications. Block periods allow students to delve deeply into rich problem/inquiry-based learning across all courses. We are looking for a math teacher who has a strong commitment to innovative curricular design, progressive pedagogy, and social justice–all in service of student learning and growth.

Instructors are responsible for teaching nine courses per year. This load can be dispersed as four courses each semester coupled with one three-week Immersive course in the winter or the spring OR three courses in one semester, two three-week Immersives, and four courses in another semester. Each semester-long class meets three times a week in a rotating block schedule. Each Immersive course meets daily for three weeks from 9am-3pm, with the potential for field trips and experiential learning that extend beyond the traditional school day.

In addition to class preparation and classroom teaching, math teachers are responsible for:

  • collaborative curricular development and alignment
  • designing skills-based formative and summative assessments
  • timely grading and feedback
  • regular communication with students, guardians, and advisors regarding student progress
  • one-on-one student meetings as needed
  • weekly faculty and course team meetings

All teaching staffulty have additional responsibilities to support the well-being of our community and the growth of individual students. These responsibilities include but are not limited to serving as an advisor, chaperoning social events, writing letters of recommendation, serving on committees and research groups, helping with admissions events and presentations.
