St. Paul’s Episcopal School, located across from Lake Merritt in Oakland, enrolls approximately 370 students from diverse backgrounds in Kindergarten through 8th grade. St. Paul’s seeks to fill a Middle School Spanish Teacher position, for the 2026-2027 academic year, with an experienced, dynamic individual who:
-has attained a BA degree (mandatory)
-has 3-5 years of experience teaching middle school Spanish
-can create a developmentally appropriate cooperative learning environment
-amplify Spanish language and culture in the life of the school through assemblies, excursions, guest speakers, and authors
-develop and implement a comprehensive Spanish language curriculum aligned with grade-level state or national standards and ACTFL proficiency benchmarks
-design and deliver interactive lessons that emphasize speaking, reading, listening, and writing
-develop and implement a comprehensive Spanish language curriculum aligned with grade-level state or national standards and proficiency benchmarks
-design and deliver interactive lessons that emphasize speaking, reading, and writing
-teach with an understanding of the development and growth of Middle School students
-communicate and collaborate with other faculty and staff regarding each student
-assess student progress using a variety of methods
-differentiate for students at various language skill levels
-communicate with parents about the program and student progress
-attend grade level student support meetings for collaborative discussion and sharing of student concerns
-identify materials, resources and technology needs for program
-include use of appropriate technology tools and resources for instruction
-has interest and/or experience integrating service learning into the curriculum
-can expose students to a multicultural perspective of universal human experience
-has interest and/or experience teaching social-emotional curriculum to middle school students
-has excellent communication skills with both children and adults
-has experience collaborating with a team of teachers to deliver curriculum
-values collegiality with other teachers and administrators
-has a warm and energetic personality and a good sense of humor
-has experience working in a private/independent school setting (preferred)
This teacher will collaborate with our other Middle School Spanish Teacher to provide our students with a vibrant opportunity to learn Spanish. In addition, this teacher will work closely with the grade level team consisting of a Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies teachers, and a group of specialists – Physical Education, Music, Technology, and Art.
This is a 1.0 FTE. Salary range for this position is $68,000 to $100,000, depending on education and experience.
