JOB OPENING: Middle School Humanities Teacher
REPORTS TO: Father Sauer Academy Principal, Mr. Connor Geraghty
STATUS: Part-Time (50%), Exempt, non-benefited HOURS: 20-25 hours per week
Salary Range: $35,000 – $50,000 (Depending upon Experience)

The Fr. Sauer Academy seeks to prepare students from under-resourced communities to be successful in a rigorous learning environment at St. Ignatius College Preparatory, in higher education, and beyond. In partnership with families, the Academy will provide access to a Catholic, Jesuit education so that students may develop their gifts and talents in a loving community for the greater glory of God.
PRIMARY ROLE:
We seek a candidate who has subject expertise in teaching Humanities at the Middle School level, ONSITE, IN CLASSROOM SETTING (This is NOT a remote position).
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated educator with an unwavering commitment to student achievement and a passion for fostering academic growth in diverse learning environments. The ideal candidate will bring strong instructional planning, effective classroom management, and a willingness to engage students who are new to a rigorous academic schedule.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Develop a curriculum for a Humanities course that fosters literacy growth, public speaking skills, and supports foundational academic skillsImplement inclusive teaching practices, applying DEIB methods, to create a welcoming classroom environment, centered on intellectual inquiry, curiosity, and collaborative learning.
- Use educational technology effectively to enhance instruction and promote student engagement
- Organize and oversee the lunch and afterschool DASH (Daily Academic Support Hub) program, providing a structured environment for academic support, homework help, and quiet study time.
- Create a classroom atmosphere that fosters community through compassionate, restorative, and inclusionary practices – building mutual respect with students and maintain a structured, supportive environment conducive to learning
- Recognize and respond to the impact of students’ lived experiences on their learning and engagement
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with families—both formally (via progress reports, report cards, and conferences) and informally (via emails and phone calls as needed)
- Actively contribute to a professional learning community and work collaboratively with colleagues
- Demonstrate flexibility and openness to teaching additional subject areas as needed in a growing program
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree;
- A California Teaching Credential or Masters Degree in English Language Arts, Education, History or Science;
- A minimum two years of middle school teaching experience in underserved communities in your area of expertise;
- An appreciation and respect for Catholic, Jesuit culture, identity and values;
- An understanding of and desire to support the mission, vision and culture of the school
