Position Summary

 

Schedule of Duties: March 18, 2024 through and including June 7, 2024Salary: $26,923 – $61,538 prorated total salary depending upon level of education and experience. Benefits eligible.

 

Position Purpose: Teach chorus to middle school students and plan and produce choral productions during a leave of absence of the SHS Chorus Teacher.

 

Specific Expectations for P-8 Employees: In addition to regular teaching responsibilities (including but not limited to preparing curriculum and grade reporting, class prep, student reporting – report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences, supervision duties, classroom substitution, advisory, elective teaching, office hours, outdoor education/field trips, etc.), the following duties and responsibilities are required as part of the P-8 faculty/staff workload: Responsibilities beyond the boundaries of teaching assignments that foster a growth mindset in order to continually improve our P-8 program such as professional development and trainings, attendance of or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (Director’s Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, etc.) are required as directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of regular work schedule, permission to work outside of the regular work schedule is required; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.

 

Essential Functions

 

• Teaches singing in the choral setting to curricular ensembles and extracurricular guilds;

• Select repertoire that provides students with opportunities for success as well as an appropriate level of challenge;

• Plans daily rehearsals based on repertoire and related musicianship skills;

• Teaches fundamental singing technique that is applicable to both solo and ensemble settings;

• Evaluate students’ skills and guide their progress in regard to improving their individual technique;

• Instructs students in ear training, music theory, and music appreciation;

• Interacts well with students to recruit them to the chorus program;

• Conducts effective group rehearsals and instructs students in their individual parts and how all voice parts fit together to create harmony;

• Leads choral groups in regular and special performances for school assemblies, community activities, concerts, and festivals;

• Duties also include helping with instrumental concerts as well as vocal directing the musicals;

• Collaborates closely with other fine arts colleagues to strengthen the arts culture within the Sacred Heart community;

• Serves as a Middle School Advisor;

• Participates in Middle School student life and activities and programming such as outdoor education, field trips, campus life events, etc.;

• Other duties as directed.

 

Qualifications

 

• Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate work in music or music education

• A minimum of five years teaching in an independent school environment

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred

• Demonstrated skills as a musician and teacher and a passion for chorus

• Demonstrated ability to plan and produce all aspects of school choral programs and productions

• A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it

• Ability to clearly communicate and work effectively with vendors, parents, colleagues, and children

• Willing to be an active and enthusiastic member of the SHS community

• Demonstrated ability to relate to children in a positive manner and maintain order and discipline in a respectful and caring way

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

 

• Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts

• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time

• Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.

• Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a 63 acre campus

• Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment

• Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
