Position Title: Prep Visual Arts Teacher (Part-Time)
Department: Prep
Reports To: Principal of the Preparatory
FLSA Classification: Exempt
FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): 50%
Schedule of Duties: 10-Month
Salary: $41,000- $82,000 annual/salary
Position Purpose: Teaches visual arts successfully at introductory and advanced/AP levels. Engages students in a variety of visual arts media (e.g, drawing, painting, print-making, collage, and/or other 2-D forms).
Specific Expectations for Prep Faculty & Staff: In addition to regular teaching and duties, the following duties and responsibilities are expected as part of the faculty/staff workload: chaperoning, community responsibilities, professional development and trainings, classroom substitution, holding office hours, proctoring exams, admission interviews, and attendance of, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (e.g. Director’s Day, open houses, Schools’ annual auction), as required and directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. In the case you are required to work outside of your normal work schedule, non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.
Essential Functions
• Prepares course materials such as, syllabi, homework assignments, and student resources.
• Manages budget and materials for course, includes ordering supplies, providing monthly reports/reconciliations, and other administrative duties associated with maintaining a studio space.
• Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• Evaluates student work and provides meaningful feedback to guide learning / growth.
• Helps students to develop academic arts language / arts literacy standards within the field.
• Provides students exposure to diverse contemporary artists and works to foster a lens of Arts Activism.
• Provides meaningful assessment opportunities through guided reflection on process and critique structures.
• Guides students to contribute to multiple student art shows and community events throughout the school year.
• Responsible for visual arts shows installations.
• Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
• Establishes and maintains an effective classroom culture that supports student engagement and learning.
• Collaborates with colleagues to develop and renew curriculum and other school programs.
• Contributes actively to build a vibrant faculty/staff learning culture.
• Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
• Maintains expertise in subject matter and pedagogy through professional development.
Qualifications
• A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior modeled on it.
• BA/BFA degree in relevant field and prior experience teaching studio art and/or work with adolescents. Prior experience working in an independent/Catholic school environment and a Masters degree in a relevant field and /or teaching credential in appropriate subject matter are preferred.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
• Time of day for teaching and other duties varies by day.
• Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption.
• Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied array of contacts.
• Must be able to regularly move safely and comfortably over a 64-acre campus.
• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time (up to 10+ hours per day).
• Be able to regularly lift up to 10lbs and on occasion, safely lift up to 30 lbs.
• Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and outside in weather ranging from cold and wet to very warm (80+ degrees).
• Available and willing to work evenings and weekends, as required.
