Salary Range: $100,000- $150,000 annual/salary
Position Purpose: The Assistant Director for Service and Apostlic Outreach (ADSAO) supports and advances the mission of a Sacred Heart Network school by coordinating and enhancing a comprehensive Preschool – GR 12 service-learning program. Rooted in the guiding mission and philosophy of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools (Goals & Criteria of a Sacred Heart Education), this role helps connect and guide students and adults with our mission in active and meaningful ways, emphasizing the values of faith, justice, community engagement, and compassion through a commitment to direct, hands-on service. Collaborating across divisions (P-12), the ADSAO will help design and lead the implementation of age-appropriate service-learning opportunities that challenge students to identify and respond to the needs of their community – both local and global. This position will be roughly 50% student-facing and 50% adult-facing.
Essential Duties
• Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s Preschool – GR 12 service-learning and service-immersion programs, ensuring that all related outreach and initiatives reflect the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart Education, particularly Goal III: “social awareness which impels to action.”
• Oversee and collaborate on the design and facilitation of events and activities related to community reflection and prayer, as well as formation activities connected to service.
• In coordination with the Mission & Ministry team and service directors and coordinators, ensure the effective and clear integration of CST with our mission and educational program, so that all opportunities for service/required service activity is not only purposeful in design, but also clearly aligned and faithfully executed to support our Goals & Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.
• Supervise the Coordinator for Service Learning (P-5) and the Director of Service Learning (Prep), coordinate with the Middle School Religion team and the P-8 Assistant Principal of Student Life to develop a cohesive Middle School Service program that scaffolds into the Prep service learning trajectory.
• Collaborate on the development of a system and service ‘transcript” for each student that tracks and documents growth, while also helping measure and evaluate program success and community partnerships.
• Oversee the planning and support of service immersion programs at the high school (including local Urban Plunges for Social Ethics classes), working to grow the program over the next five (5) years, developing new community partners (locally, nationally, and globally) and ensuring adherence to institutional risk and safety protocols.
• Serve as SHS liaison to Sacred Heart Network around related service initiatives and projects, such as the Heart Projects and continued growth of our connection with the Network.
• Oversee the Donations & Drives Committee along with the Director of Service Learning (Prep) and Chief Advancement Officer (SHS).
• Collaborate with the CFO and Risk Management team on best practices for off-campus (immersion trips, local service events) and on-campus service opportunities, and provide leadership to the P-12 service team on protocols, policies, and expectations.
• In tandem with the Director of Mission & Ministry, help drive the vision and execution of service-related initiatives and goals outlined in the institution’s upcoming Strategic Plan.
• Coordinate with the Directors of Mission and Culture, as well as Directors of Curriculum and Department heads, to integrate Catholic Social Teaching into our justice-oriented work and create a cohesive program that connects Dignity Consciousness to all that we do.
• Coordinate with the Prep Director of Service Learning and the Ethnic Studies team to integrate service programs that both support the Catholic mission of the school as well as the learning outcomes of Ethnic Studies.
• Assist in cultivating and maintaining relationships with local nonprofits, parishes, and social service organizations.
• Serve as a resource for teachers integrating service-learning into curriculum and classroom life.
• Coordinate with the Office of Mission Program Assistant on newsletters/newsletter submissions, community announcements, website updates, and digital platforms/media related to outreach and service.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, theology, ministry, social work, nonprofit management, or related field.
• A minimum of 2-5 years of experience working with children and adolescents in educational, pastoral, or community-service settings to ensure robust knowledge and breadth of experience required for success in this position. Previous experience working in a Sacred Heart Network school is preferred.
• Existing partnerships with local, regional, or national service agencies and/or Catholic based charities and organizations are preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in event planning or program management.
• Strong organizational and management skills; highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Additional skills in Spanish or Mandarin are preferred and valued.
• Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of colleagues, administrators, community partners, parents/guardians, and other institutional supporters.
• Commitment to the educational philosophy and values of Sacred Heart education as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart Education.
• Familiarity with Catholic Social Teachings and the spirituality of the Society of the Sacred Heart.
• Must be comfortable leading prayer, reflection, and formation activities.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
• Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Commitment to follow SHS health and safety requirements as directed.
• Regularly sit, talk, listen, and interact with students, parents, educators and visitors.
• Works in a highly dynamic and sometimes stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
• Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a 64-acre campus.
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
• Regularly uses close and distance vision and work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time. Turn, bend, reach and occasionally use a ladder.
• Work in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and in outdoor weather typical to the central Peninsula section of the Bay Area.
