Job Description and Desired Qualifications

The Director of Facilities and Operations  is responsible for strategic and tactical management of the School’s buildings and grounds and the School’s operations in the areas of traffic management, safety and emergency preparedness, event set up and coordination, and neighbor relations. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer and the Head of School. The Director supervises two maintenance staff and third-party custodial staff. Additionally, the Director is responsible for careful stewardship of the facilities related budgets and they work closely with the Board of Trustees’ Buildings and Grounds Committee on initiatives related to the school’s aspirations for enhanced and expanded facilities and improvements to the current buildings and grounds.

 

This is a full-time position.

 

Essential Requirements:

 

∙           Bachelor’s degree or trade certification required.

∙           Five or more years in a comparable position.

∙           General contractor experience helpful, a working knowledge of all building and safety codes from government agencies having jurisdiction, hands-on experience in multiple maintenance disciplines, including boiler systems, electrical, plumbing, and general carpentry.

∙           Technical work experience, with experience in an educational setting preferred. Related experience could include construction, plant engineer, or facility management.

∙           Strong administrative skills, including ability to leverage technology.

∙           The Director of Facilities and Operations must demonstrate the ability to supervise and support, as well as interface with a variety of constituents with a positive attitude.

∙           Knowledge of best methods, practices, equipment and supplies used in facility maintenance, as well as the ability to interpret and understand building and safety regulations.

∙           Knowledge of budget preparation and control and the ability to work within budget constraints.

∙           Personnel management skills and contractor management experience, with aptitude to judge quality of performance in all major technical trades and personal experience in at least one technical trade (carpentry, mechanical, electrical, structural, etc.).

 

Pay Scale:

The anticipated salary range the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the position of Director of Facilities and Operations is $110,000 – $125,000, depending on factors such as experience and education.
