Pay Rate: $45,000-$65,000

Supervises: Staff hired for productions and workshops

Position Summary

The Theater Director is responsible for directing three (3) mainstage productions (two musicals and one play), teaching one section of a theater productions course, running the Int’l Thespian Society student club and supporting our student improv group.

Duties and Specific Responsibilities

Establish and implement a clear vision for the co-curricular Theater program with care for the mission of the department and Presentation High School, tradition, community, and established quality of performances.
Select and plan annual theater productions
Direct three student productions, and support & supervise student directed productions.
Work with the Performing Arts Director and Technical Director to design sets and costumes  for all productions.
Develop and manage all Theater production budgets.
Moderate the International Thespian Society (ITS) student group and coordinate/supervise all ITS productions.
Hire and supervise contractors for Performing Arts productions including show music/vocal directors, choreographers.
Coordinate with the House Manager and the Presentation Communications team to ensure successful marketing and communication of Theater programming.
Teaching a theater production course:
Demonstrate subject matter competency and the ability to communicate that to high school students.
Devise appropriate curriculum and implement a variety of teaching methodologies.
Devise a system of classroom order and discipline which contributes to the learning of all students.
Be available to students who need assistance.
Exercise professionalism at all times with students, parents, and colleagues.
Participate in professional development activities for the subject area, pedagogy and technology.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree
2-4  years theater directing experience (particularly with young adults)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge of theater direction, musical theater direction preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to articulate a clear artistic vision
Demonstrated organizational skills
Strong classroom management skills
Total resonance with the mission, vision, and values of Presentation High School and the Catholic education tradition including a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

The Theater Director  must be able to

Lift and/or carry 25-35  lbs
Sit, stand, walk, climb stairs or ladder and reach
Primary hours are 1-6:30, Monday through Friday when productions are in rehearsal.  There will  be additional evenings and weekends required, particularly during production weeks..
Work with frequent interruptions

Work Environment

This position works primarily in the Valenzuela Theater set shop, theater and booth.
