The Position

Mount Tamalpais School (MTS) seeks a full-time 6th Grade Humanities Teacher and Advisor starting August 2024.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, a B.A./B.S. in a relevant field, and be an accomplished teacher of writing.

A successful candidate in this position will:
-Exhibit a passion for content knowledge and a range of effective pedagogical approaches for the subject and age group.
-Demonstrate commitment to equitable and culturally responsive teaching practices so that every student can see themself in their classroom, the curriculum, and the pedagogy.
-Cultivate an inclusive, collaborative, and challenging learning environment that reflects the MTS values and allows a diverse student body to grow and thrive
-Integrate technology in effective ways that enhance students’ learning experiences and growth
-Possess a growth mindset and commitment to personal and professional development
-Collaborate effectively with other community members both within their own department and in the School community as a whole.
-Serve as an advisor who is committed to the social and emotional development of students and community building
-Communicate with students and families regularly through school platforms and email.
-Support grade-level events, including outdoor education
-Bring skills to contribute to our rich programming outside of the classroom (e.g. sponsoring a club, leading an outdoor education trip, etc.)

Our teachers have a genuine love of middle school students and are excited to work with all types of learners. MTS recognizes that many highly-qualified candidates may not check every criteria listed and that many experiences and qualities that promote exceptional teaching are not included in this list. Located fifteen minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Mill Valley, Mount Tamalpais School (MTS) is a k-8 co-educational independent day school serving ~270 students.

Pay Range
Salary will be determined by education and years of experience and will range from $80,000 – $120,000
