Title: Primary Literacy Teacher, Part-time

Supervisor:  Lead Teacher; K-8 Division Director

FTE: 0.6 FTE

Salary range: $52,000 – $58,000

The Primary Literacy Teacher will take the lead on teaching fundamental literacy in 1st and 2nd grade including writer’s workshop and the Foundations curriculum. The Literacy teacher will coordinate with the Homeroom Teachers to support the students at each grade level. This is a part time position that will require morning to early afternoon hours on campus.

The Literacy Teacher is expected to:

  • plan and implement literacy curriculum in the 1st and 2nd grade classrooms
  • work closely with the Homeroom teacher and division to coordinate curriculum and instruction.
  • communicate closely and effectively with the school community, building positive connections with students, faculty, staff, and families.
  • learn and respond to the academic and social-emotional needs of our students.
  • support the classroom procedures and management style established by the lead teacher.
  • substitute teach when the lead teacher is called away from the classroom for any reason.
  • assume responsibility for specified duties, including lunch and recess duty, arrival and departure duty, and other duties regularly assigned to members of the faculty and staff as appropriate

The Literacy Teacher must be able to:

  • provide for the safety and well-being of all students at all times through the creation of a safe and secure environment in which students can grow both academically and socially-emotionally.
  • assist the lead teacher in the preparation and closure of the classroom during teacher work weeks in August and June.
  • attend weekly faculty meetings and faculty in-service days and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • attend various school functions throughout the year including Back-to-School Night, admissions events, Open House, and other evening gatherings.
  • assist the lead teacher in the preparation of progress reports, parent/teacher conferences and presentations for Back-to-School Night and other such events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field
  • Previous experience teaching literacy in the elementary grades
