Website Marin Academy

Marin Academy seeks an experienced English teacher for a full-time position beginning in August 2025. The MA English Department values a student-centered, inquiry-based approach to teaching that balances content mastery with an emphasis on skill development. The goal of the department is to cultivate habits of mind around collaboration, identity formation, and critical thinking. Our curriculum asks students to see the world in a multidimensional way, stretching them to understand and value differences while simultaneously encouraging them to develop individualism and authenticity in voice.

Successful candidates will hold a degree in English and a strong desire to teach core ninth- or tenth-grade courses. Preferred candidates will have a strong background in the teaching of writing, a demonstrated interest in working collaboratively within and across departments, and the inclination and experience to work in a diverse community with a range of learners.

MA values the inclusion of many voices and perspectives, and candidates should have the inclination and experience to work in a diverse community focused on issues of equity and social justice. In addition, we highly value the student-teacher relationship. Individuals with a demonstrated desire to play roles across the school, including but not limited to advising, leading student activities, coaching, and/or supporting other key programs, are encouraged to apply.

Marin Academy’s mission statement “asks every individual to think, question, and create in an environment of encouragement and compassion, and challenges each person to accept the responsibilities posed by education in a democratic society.” The school is a vibrant and increasingly diverse community, and students and teachers alike continue to work towards the furthering of an inclusive and supportive school. Marin Academy is an equal-opportunity employer committed to excellence through diversity, and people of color and women are encouraged to apply. * For the right candidate, this position could be combined with a .25 position, the Co-Director of Student Belonging. The Co-Director of Student Belonging will report to the Dean of Equity & Inclusion and will focus on supporting students of color and fostering a strong sense of belonging within the Belonging@MA cohort. The role oversees student recruitment into the program; monitors students’ academic progress, well-being, and sense of belonging through regular check-ins and collaboration with deans, advisors, and support services; and connects students and families to academic, wellness, and co-curricular resources. The Co-Director also leads identity-affirming community-building initiatives, mentors students during key transitions (especially into 9th grade), coordinates cohort activities and celebrations, partners with admissions and DEI teams for outreach and family engagement, and represents the school’s belonging and equity work at admissions and community events, all while working closely with a fellow Co-Director and internal partners to strengthen MA’s broader belonging ecosystem.

Salary Range: Teachers at Marin Academy are paid according to a published salary scale, with steps for years of experience and degrees earned. A teacher with 5–10 years of experience and a Master’s degree can expect to earn between $99,000-$113,000 per year.
