Website Live Oak School

Live Oak School is seeking a qualified candidate for a part time position (15 hours per week) as Library Assistant. The library serves approximately 420 students in grades K-8 as well as faculty, staff, and parents. Students attend library classes weekly and the library is also open during breaks and recess times throughout the day.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Support and implement Live Oak library policies
Manage book circulation, including book checkout, shelving, and book repair, as necessary
Maintaining a neat and orderly arrangement and appearance of the library
Assist with tracking and collecting overdue books
Support the Librarian with student management and instructional needs
Perform such duties and task as the Librarian assign
Cooperate with Live Oak faculty to monitor lunch and/or recess as necessary

Candidate Qualities:

Maintain a friendly and positive attitude towards students, coworkers, and other community members
Perform daily tasks with integrity, making effective use of time and completing tasks without reminders
Treat children with respect and dignity
Use appropriate language in and out of the library

Job Specifications:

Previous experience with children’s supervision
Experience with diverse student and community populations is preferred
Familiarity with Dewey Decimal Classification and general organizational practices in libraries
Work experience in a library setting is not required, but strongly preferred; a willingness to learn and strong initiative are of primary importance
Knowledge of Google Workspace at a level that will support this position
High school diploma or equivalent is required and a bachelor’s degree is preferred

Physical Requirements

This job requires interacting with students of a variety of ages so candidates must be able to get up and down from a seated position, either from a chair or the floor, frequently. Additionally, lifting of several books and moving heavy carts loaded with books will be required. Candidates must possess sufficient strength and stamina for these tasks.
