Responsibilities

Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, and enthusiastic educator to join our 9th grade English and History Teams. We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy to reflect the needs of 21st Century learners.  We want teachers who are excited to join our community of learners and collaborate with us on meeting our Strategic Plan Goals and living our mission.

Head-Royce teachers also serve as advisors and club sponsors and participate in the life of the community.  We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, an awareness of ecological literacy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with students at this specific age level.

Skills

Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Expertise in teaching English (writing, reading, critical thinking) and / or History.
Collaborative, flexible colleague with Upper school teaching experience, with an ability to teach the full range of learners from grades 9 through 12.
Clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents.
Demonstrated knowledge of a child’s social/emotional development and developmentally appropriate curriculum for culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches as well as different styles and types of assessment
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree; ideal candidates will have an academic background in the Humanities.
Knowledge of appropriate use of technology to enhance the learning experience
Demonstrated desire to teach in the High School
2-5 years minimum teaching experience
Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice
Additional Qualifications (preferred, not required)

Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in the Humanities and, or, Education
