Drew School is an independent, urban high school in San Francisco enrolling 280 students in grades 9 through 12. Our mission states: “Drew knows and believes in teenagers. We engage each student in a process of intellectual discovery to develop an individual voice, the confidence to express it, and the empathy to understand its impact.”

Drew combines a student-centered curriculum with a dedicated, passionate faculty committed to best practices in their disciplines, DEIB, social-emotional learning, and differentiated instruction. We believe that teenagers need a safe haven and meaningful relationships to open their minds to possibilities, emphasizing their unique journey of defining success on their own terms. The faculty meets twice a week to engage in discussion and professional development with a focus on best practices in education, such as equity and inclusion, social-emotional learning, and adolescent development.

Position Overview

Drew is looking to fill a full-time Visual Arts position for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a one year position with potential for renewal depending on the department’s needs.  We are seeking an educator with a BFA and high school teaching experience. An ideal candidate has a passion for working with adolescents, experience with students with a variety of learning styles, and a strong interest/background in running co-curricular activities (coaching, clubs, experiential education, etc.).

Candidate should have specific knowledge and experience with Sculpture, Painting, and Drawing and Design. The Drew faculty is collegial and collaborative, and we look to bring in candidates who are interested in enhancing the visual arts curriculum with support of the Department Chair and on developing cross-disciplinary projects.

Salary range: $75,000 – $105,000

 

Duties and Responsibilities Outside of the Department

  • Teach 4 classes
  • Lead or co-lead Experiential Electives
  • Advise a student advising group
  • Lead or co-lead an approved Drew Education for Active Lifelong Learning (DEALL) week experience in the spring.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Has a commitment to the mission of the school
  • Has at minimum a B.A. or B.F.A. in Art
  • Has experience teaching at an independent high school
  • Experience in curriculum development – specifically UbD
  • Has experience working with students with learning differences and has the ability to work and differentiate within the classroom
  • Enjoys working with teenagers
  • Is self-reflective and growth-minded
  • Has the ability to collaborate with adults and students
  • Is culturally competent and a practitioner of equity and inclusion
  • Has the ability to maintain standards of professionalism
