Position Overview

The Temporary School Counselor/Student Support Specialist works both directly and indirectly with our students to provide support. This person collaborates and partners with students, teachers and families to best meet student needs, both individually and within the context of their classroom, grade level and school community. The term of this position is August 7, 2023 – December 21, 2023 with the possibility of extension.

At Armstrong, we believe that students succeed when given the right strategies and support. This position is ideal for someone who has previous experience either in the classroom or in a counseling role and is comfortable in supporting both our teachers and students in classroom management.

Primary Responsibilities:

Support classroom social-emotional learning
Facilitate communication with faculty and families to identify student needs
Work collaboratively with school counselor
Facilitate lunchtime social groups
Have an understanding of positive behavior interventions
Develop individual strategies to support students with anxiety and ADHD

Additional Responsibilities:

Participate in Grade Level Meetings (GLMs) when relevant
Actively participate in all school related activities
Team with Lower and Middle School Directors
Team with teachers in the creation of behavioral management plans and other student support tools.
Attend workshops and other professional growth activities
Meet individually with students as needed

Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of five years experience in a school or similar setting
Knowledge of students with learning differences preferred
Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Intervention System (PBIS)
Experience with classroom observations
