Position Description

The Temporary Lower School (LS) Homeroom teacher will provide coverage August 2023 through December 2023 and will partner with a second Homeroom teacher. Homeroom teachers work in a collaborative, co-teaching environment that requires effective communication and flexibility. Armstrong homeroom teachers create and facilitate daily morning meetings, teach small group language and math classes, and co-teach content areas including writing, social studies and science. Candidates possess an interest in teaching students with dyslexia and related learning differences. In the classroom, the teacher works to create an educational setting where students have the opportunity to fulfill their personal and academic potential. The teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that maximizes student strengths and promotes academic success in accordance with Charles Armstrong methodology and mission.

Primary Responsibilities:

● Provide direct, differentiated instruction for students, focusing on 21st century skills like collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving.

● Identify, select, modify, and create instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs, in collaboration with grade level teammates and instructional coaches.

● Use classroom management systems that are focused on students’ social emotional needs.

● Provide a positive environment in which students are able to engage actively in meaningful learning experiences.

● Communicate and partner effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals on a regular basis.

● Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, families, and colleagues.

Preferred Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience ● Bachelor’s Degree

● Valid teaching credential

● Experience with and understanding of elementary-age children

● Experience with and understanding of children with learning differences

● Two or more years of classroom teaching experience
