Science Teaching Fellow
2026-27 School Year

Classification: Full-time, Exempt Faculty (Teaching Fellowship)
Duration: 10.5 Months (August 2026 – June 2027)

Urban School is looking for a dynamic, energetic college graduate, graduate student, or professional with distinctive academic science credentials and an interest in exploring teaching as a career to work as an apprentice teacher over the course of one school year. The Teaching Fellow Program is designed to introduce aspiring educators to the day-to-day experience of teaching, enliven our academic community, and help increase the ranks of independent school teachers from diverse identities. For the 2026-27 school year we are inviting applicants to teach in our science department.

The Teaching Fellow at Urban School gains a deep understanding about what constitutes good teaching, an appreciation of independent schools, and a strong sense of their own emerging talent and potential as a participant in a school community. The Fellow is encouraged to participate in conferences and workshops related to their academic discipline as well as co-curricular areas of interest. The Fellow observes classes throughout the year, both in science and in other subjects, and closely collaborates with other teachers in the science department. In addition, the Teaching Fellow takes full responsibility for teaching four classes across our three terms, working in collaboration with the department chair and others. The Teaching Fellow also leads a weekly “U period” class in the spring, weekly enrichment activities that reflect the Teaching Fellow’s own interests and experience.

The salary for this position is $77,400 annually.
