JOB DESCRIPTION:

Assistant Camp Couselors play a vital role in supporting our summer program, Camp Carey.  This is an active, high-energy position that requires strong supervision skills, initiative, and a genuine enthusiasm for working with children.  Assistant Camp Counselors help facilitate daily activities, ensure camper safety, and foster a positive environment for all.  The Assistant Camp Counselor reports to the Auxiliary Programs Director and works under the guidance of the Lead Counselor.  This is a full-time, seasonal position.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assisting the Lead Counselor in prepping and facilitating hand-on activities and projects.
  • Collaborating with fellow Assistant Counselors to plan and lead outdoor group games.
  • Actively supervising and engaging campers throughout the camp day to ensure their safety, well-being, and enjoyment.
  • Demonstrating strong situational awareness and sound judgement to maintain camper safety.
  • Fostering an inclusive, team-oriented environment and modeling positive and appropriate interactions.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe camp environment, including classrooms, outdoor spaces, and equipment.
  • Supporting behavior management and conflict resolution in collaboration with the Lead Counselor.
  • Participating enthusiastically in all camp activities and events, and serving as a positive role model.
  • Communicating effectively with camp leadership, colleagues, and parents/guardians as appropriate.
  • Supporting smooth daily operations through flexibility, responsiveness, and teamwork.

  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and committed to creating a positive camp experience.
  • Strong teamwork, communication skills, and initiative.
  • High level of reliability and professionalism, including consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Willingness to be actively engaged in all aspects of camp life.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working with children preferred, but not required.

DETAILS:

Employement Dates:

  • Staff Training:  June 16 – 18, 2026.
  • Camp Season:  June 22 – August 7, 2026 (No camp on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day).

Schedule:

  • Monday – Friday; Shifts will fall between 7:45 am and 5:00 pm, approximately 8 hours per day.
  • This is a seasonal, non-exempt position.

Compensation:

  • $20 – $25 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
