The Fund for LWHS Manager

Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco is a college preparatory, co-educational day school serving approximately 460 students from grades 9-12. Founded in 1895 as a technical arts school and tuition free until 1972, LWHS has a long history of welcoming and supporting students from all walks of life and prides itself on being a private school with public purpose. At LWHS, a diverse student body, faculty, and staff in all its forms is central to what we believe constitutes an excellent education, and we are institutionally committed to ongoing reflective work in order to further define and articulate this complex and worthwhile vision.

The Fund for LWHS Manager is responsible for developing programs, activities, and communications that: secures the revenue for The Fund for LWHS; increases the percentage of participation in The Fund for LWHS from each of the school’s constituencies; and engages volunteers effectively. The Fund for LWHS Manager works closely with the alumni and development team on solicitation and messaging, volunteer management, and gift processing and acknowledgements. In addition, The Fund for LWHS Manager serves as the project manager for the annual THE event, a community fundraising event to secure funds in support of a particular program need or initiative for the school.


  • Design the strategy, theme/messaging, and calendar for The Fund for LWHS to all constituencies (Goal of $1,000,000)
  • Recruit and train volunteers: Fund Co-Chairs, Board members, parent class captains, parent callers, and work with the Alumni Program Manager on recruitment of alumni class agents
  • Create and manage consistent and timely volunteer updates and communication
  • Organize the constituency segmentation and target solicitation appeal amounts
  • Write The Fund appeals and work with the Communications Manager or independent contractors to design electronic and print collateral pieces for solicitations
  • Coordinate and manage campaign kick-off and phone-a-thons; collaborate with Alumni Program Manager to coordinate alumni phone-a-thons
  • Work with Director of Alumni and Development on planning and implementing leadership solicitation events and stewardship events
  • Communicate The Fund status with the LWHS community
  • Coordinate with Database Manager to produce pledge reminders
  • Supervise Development Associate and Database Manager on reports, events, and special projects
  • THE event—Serve as Project Manager for the annual THE event (held in the Spring)

    • Manage post-event fundraising including messaging, webpage, solicitations
    • Recruit and manage volunteers
    • Solicit and manage in-kind donations
    • Create and manage promotions, collateral, and program
    • Collaborate with Director of Alumni and Development and event advisory committee to recruit talent/performers/presenters
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues on campus and vendors to coordinate logistics for program presentation and reception

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High degree of integrity and dedication to the LWHS mission
  • Some evening/weekend work required
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years similar experience in fundraising
  • Ability to establish goals and action plans, and to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team to achieve goals
  • Demonstrated success in managing Annual Fund programs
  • Strong organization skills and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated skills in planning and executing successful events
  • Strong self-motivation
  • Successful experience recruiting and leading volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality
  • Computer skills sufficient to fulfill job responsibilities; experience with Blackbaud’s Rasier’s Edge software and social networking a plus
