Summer Program Director

San Francisco Friends School’s five week summer camp is a vital and vibrant part of the Friends School program. The Summer Program Director serves as the creative leader overseeing all aspects of the K-8 program, from envisioning and designing summer opportunities to marketing, hiring, and managing finances, staff, and students. A key member of the school’s administrative team, the Summer Program Director reports to the Director of Community Engagement and the school’s Director of Finance and Operations. The Summer Program Director will work closely with others on the SFFS team to create, deliver, and refine a distinctive, exemplary, and financially profitable program that utilizes the school’s facilities and embodies its Quaker mission. This is a part time, 11-month position that runs Oct. 1 through Aug. 30 (average 20 hours/week) but requires full-time engagement – with longer days – as it ramps up to and through the summer. The Summer Program Director serves as a leader in the following areas:

  • Program leadership – Creates, implements, and evaluates a summer program that:

    • meets the needs and interests of K-8 students and families throughout San Francisco, and utilizes the school’s distinctive facilities and location. For the summer of 2014, the Director will build upon the school’s previous camp offerings in the areas of music, dance, visual arts, technology, sports, high school prep, and K-2 enrichment classes.

    • is of the highest quality in terms of staffing, offerings, and pedagogy,

  • Staffing – Ensures high quality staff and teaching that is consistent with the school’s Mission:

    • hires, trains, nurtures, and supervises an excellent and diverse staff

    • negotiates agreements (contracts) with independent contractors and assures that these camps align with SFFS’ financial expectations, program, and culture.

  • Finances – Oversees the financial management and operations to allow for healthy, sustained growth and profitability, as well as increased access and affordability.

    • produces monthly reports of the Summer Program’s enrollment, staffing, expenses, and revenue

    • is responsible for drafting and administering the summer camp budget and periodically reconciling it with the business office

  • Marketing – Designs and implements a marketing plan to sustain and increase healthy program enrollment.

    • utilizes school communications tools, website, social media, summer camp fairs, direct mailings, and other means of marketing the SFFS Summer Program.

The Summer Program Director will maintain clear understanding of and engagement with the school’s current programs and initiatives and communicate clearly and frequently with students, parents, teachers, and administrators at the school. The Summer Program Director will help build a unique, high quality program that takes advantage of and maximizes the school’s resources: space, talent, location, and approach.
