Park Day School, founded in 1976, offers a coeducational K-8 program for 290 students. We are immediately seeking an interim Spanish teacher who is ready to assume teaching with 3-5 grade students through the remainder of the school year, June 21. This is an 80% position, Mondays through Thursdays. There are two classes for each grade with approximately 18 students each, for a teaching load of 18 classes per week that are 45 minutes long. Our candidate will collaborate with the K-2 and 6-8 Spanish teachers as well as the lower school faculty and administration.
Requirements and Qualifications
We seek a dynamic teacher who can infuse lessons with energy and joy, inspire a passion and curiosity for speaking Spanish and connecting with other cultures, and who can anchor curriculum in meaningful contexts for deep understanding. She or he will be able to successfully instruct and differentiate for students at different ability levels and multiple intelligences, including adapting curriculum to some Hispanic Heritage Learners. The Spanish teacher will establish and maintain a healthy and mutually respectful learning environment. Candidates must be confident bilingual speakers and writers. A teaching credential and familiarity with the TPRS methodology is strongly preferred. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully working as a member of a teaching team and to communicate effectively and collaboratively with staff and parents.
Related Job Responsibilities
The candidate will:
o Attend Wednesday and Thursday staff meetings
o Manage the classroom budget allocation
o Work from established philosophy and scope and sequence for each grade as well as participate in some all-school events
o Complete student reports in June and offer conferences in March for parents
