We seek a talented part-time 6th and 8th grade teacher who can inspire students to see the scholar within each of them. This person should have an understanding of the unique needs of middle school girls and be excited about working specifically with them. Candidates must be knowledgeable in the discipline of Environmental Science and feel comfortable building student environmental awareness.
In the 6th grade students learn to gain an appreciation of our local natural setting and look more closely at the natural events that surround us each day. Activities include outdoor exploration, observations, discussion of currents events, debates, games and a year-long phenology project during which students observe one specific location of their choice.
In the 8th grade, students have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of complex environmental concepts and controversies. Students will investigate current issues and participate in debates. Students also gain an appreciation for the resources and materials that we use by experimenting with creative re-use projects. We use our garden and campus as an outdoor classroom and resource for observation, inquiry and experimentation.
Both grade level classes meet once a week. Skills and content learned will be used as building blocks for projects and activities. Most projects will be hands-on and group oriented.
