One-Year Half-time French Teacher with possibility of permanent 3/4 or Full-Time for 2014-2015

Expected Beginning Date: August, 2013

Position Description:
The Athenian School is seeking a half-time teacher of French in grades 9-12. The position entails teaching two sections of French, levels 3 and 4 Advanced Placement. Athenian faculty members have additional duties, such as weekend residential duty or physical education, as well as additional co-curricular activities. Because Athenian has a rotating daily schedule, classes meet at different times each day.

Core Qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching French, preferably at the high school level
Demonstrated excellence in teaching in a student-centered classroom
Native or near-native fluency in the language
Extensive knowledge of the diverse French/Francophone cultures
Ability to work collaboratively
Experience and familiarity with technology as a tool in teaching French
Bachelor’s degree or at least 3 years teaching experience in relevant field is required; master’s degree and/or teaching credential is preferred
Demonstrated commitment to education for democracy, justice, equity, inclusion, community service, and environmental stewardship

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years teaching experience in an academically challenging high school (preferably in independent schools)
Ability and experience in teaching advanced level courses (such as Advanced Placement)
Advanced degree in French language or literature
Experience and interest in curriculum design and development
Familiarity with AP French courses
Interest and/or previous experience in leading student trips to French-speaking countries
