Middle School Spanish Teacher

Job Description:

The Middle School Spanish teacher will partner with our current 6th/7th grades and K-5 Spanish teachers to coordinate and facilitate a K-8 Spanish program. With our recent adoption of Descubres in the Lower School and Santillana in our middle school, this teacher will need to bring not only fluency and experience in teaching Spanish, but also, a strong and intuitive familiarity with, knowledge of and appreciation for the cultural aspects of language instruction. The course load consists of four classes in the 2014-15 academic year, and may move to five classes in the following year. Each class section will have approximately 18-21 students. This teacher will have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiation of instruction, a collaborative spirit, and an interest in building community. Additional responsibilities include active involvement in student advisory, student activities, collaborative teacher meetings, supervisory duties and outdoor education.

Essential Requirements:

  • BA in Spanish Language, Culture, or equivalent
  • Classroom teaching experience in Spanish, especially at the middle school level
  • Candidate must have a natural rapport with children and good classroom management skills

Desired Qualifications and Traits:

  • Masters in Education or specific subject area (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
