Overview of School:

Park Day School, founded in 1976, offers a coeducational K-8 program for 300 students. The school community embraces the ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic diversity of Oakland, perhaps the most diverse city in America. The school embraces progressive educational theory and practice, while fostering the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of our students. Our unique collaborative governance model brings parents and staff together as leaders in partnership. A leader in public purpose, our community outreach program seeks to build collaboration with public schools, while creating service learning opportunities for our students. The school is located on one of the most beautiful and verdant elementary school campuses in the Bay Area.

Responsibilities include:

Curricular Support, Student Support in the form of individual and group teaching, Screening of Students for Admissions and periodic informal assessment, and Case Management

Ongoing observation, informal assessment of and consultation with the teaching staff and parents regarding students’ academic development. Assessment for and determination of appropriate outside learning support services. Ongoing communication with the director, division leaders and fellow learning specialists regarding students development

Record-keeping, communication with parents and outside specialists, referrals to families, interpreting standardized test results

Qualifications:

Experience as a Learning Specialist in a school setting, Certificate in Educational Therapy or Master’s in Special Education. Candidates with related experience will also be considered

Experience with assessment strategies. Teaching approach informed by training in a specific teaching methodology (Slingerland, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell, Reading Revolution, etc.)

Experience working with classroom teachers and parents, regarding students’ learning development. Knowledge of related referral resources.

Experience with admissions screenings.
