Middle School Head

Children’s Day School (CDS) is a co-educational preschool through eighth grade serving 410 students in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco.  Spanning two campuses, and home to a diverse community of students, faculty and families, CDS is a vibrant learning community. Our teachers practice constructivist teaching; born of “learning by doing,” it is how we achieve excellent academics. We believe by encouraging children to fully engage in complex topics, and in myriad ways, we are giving them tools to become lifelong learners and passionate citizens of the world. The Head of Middle School leads 160 students, their families, and 10 faculty and staff, and takes responsibility for the overall quality, character and advancement of the Middle School.

Responsibilities:

 

   Ensures the care and quality of education for Middle School students and teachers

   Supervises, evaluates and supports the development of MS faculty and staff

   Takes lead in the recruitment, selection and replacement of MS faculty and staff

   Promotes MS faculty professional development

   Oversees MS curriculum development

   Takes lead in all internal and external communications and meetings for MS students, parents and faculty

   Serves as a consultant to MS faculty in manners of classroom management, teaching methods and school procedures

   Provides guidance to MS students, parents and teachers

   Serves as a member of the Administrative Team led by the Head of School

Collaborates closely with elementary and preschool divisions to ensure a cohesive program, preschool – 8th grade

   Participates in a variety of school-wide community functions

 

Requirements:

The successful candidate will:

 

   Hold a master’s degree and/or other postgraduate degrees in a subject field or in a leadership area

   Have a minimum of five years teaching and leadership experience with Middle School students and teachers

   Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills

   Demonstrate strong leadership and facilitative skills

   Have a command of knowledge in adolescent development and curriculum development

Have a passion for people, teaching and learning

 

Compensation
