Position type: Full-time, Exempt, Year-round (12 month)

The Assistant Director of Athletics reports to the Director of Athletics and is part of an interscholastic athletics program that includes 30 interscholastic teams across two divisions, and a robust physical education program. The Assistant Director of Athletics – Upper School is responsible for Operations, Communications and Sports Information for the Upper School and is responsible for assisting in developing, maintaining, and implementing a highly professional department. The ideal candidate will have a positive, welcoming demeanor and desire to be part of the larger school community.

Responsibilities (including but are not limited to:)

Department Support:

●      Support the Director of Athletics & department in all areas of responsibility requested within the athletic and physical education programs.

●      Assist with department management of US coaches

●      Inventory and organization of all US sports equipment

●      Order equipment and uniforms as needed for US sports

●      Organize uniforms and equipment in storage areas

 

Student and Athlete Support:

●      Manage PE credit database for US students alongside US registrar

●      Create Life Fitness schedules for US program

●      Assess and approve alternative PE credit applications for US students

 

Game Support:

●      Serve as lead on running interscholastic home athletic events, including necessary set-up and welcoming visiting teams, officials, and fans when they arrive.

●      Serve as a contact for all constituents (students, parents/guardians, faculty and staff) on issues related to Upper School athletics.

●      Serve as onsite administrator in charge and share extra/co-curricular responsibilities for nighttime and weekend athletic contests and events.

●      Input and manage schedules for all upper school sport teams

●      Confirm contests of all upper school sports on a weekly basis

●      Prepare locker rooms and officials space for home contests

 

Communications:

●      Serve as one of the managers of all athletic data on school website, web calendars, and the athletic web pages, including team rosters and practice/game schedules.

●      Maintain and update athletic/physical education bulletin boards and the picture wall.

 

Miscellaneous:

●      Secondary contact for sport facility space rentals

●      Assist with sport facility scheduling calendar

●      Promote Bentley School teams, coaches, and athletes

●      Schedule and coordinate US team pictures

●      Organize and implement athletic department special events

●      Assist in organizing end-of-year athletic awards celebration.

●      Coach at least two seasons of sport at Bentley School

●      Maintain a positive, highly efficient, organized, professional and confidential manner in all aspects of the job.

●      Assist in fostering good school and community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program and events.

●      Maintain confidentiality of students, families, faculty, and staff.

●      Maintain a healthy communications relationship with our league and section, including accomplishing all required deadlines for schedules, rosters, and other requirements.

●      Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

●               Bachelor’s or master’s degree in athletic administration or related field.

●               Minimum three (3) years’ experience in independent schools working with middle and high school aged children.

●               Minimum three (3) years’ experience teaching and coaching middle and high school aged children.

●               Desire to work in an athletics department representing a diverse population.

●               Ability to work in an environment where flexibility is crucial.

●               Capacity to strike a good balance between engaging students and setting appropriate boundaries.

●               Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize workload.

●               High attention to detail and ability to anticipate needs and offer proactive support.

●               Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with core constituents.

●               Self-starter with ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems independently. Ability to identify appropriate avenues for solving issues.

●               Team player with a sense of humor.

●               Superior customer service skills and a collaborative, friendly demeanor.

●               Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, particularly, Word and Excel. Experience with Photoshop, Publisher, or similar software is highly desired.

 

Pay Range:

Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which considers experience, education, and skill level. The salary for this position ranges from $66,560 – $70,000.
