Aurora School is an East Bay leader in developmentally grounded and constructivist education that prepares students for high school, for college, and for life. Established in 1989, Aurora is an independent, diverse K-5 school that combines challenging academics, small multi-age classes, differentiated instruction, and a keen awareness of children's social and emotional development.  Aurora encourages students to discover and build on their strengths as individuals as well as collaborative learners and leaders. Our learning community is closely connected to our Oakland neighbors through an ethos of service learning, community service, social justice, diversity, and sustainability. Our students develop into self-aware and confident life long learners who advocate for themselves and others, throughout school and beyond.
We are looking for dynamic Lead Teacher who is experienced at planning and implementing integrated curricula, who is committed to academic excellence, culturally responsive teaching, and who understands child growth and development. Responsibilities will include teaching language arts, math, history and science. (Students also attend P.E., music, art, Spanish, library and computer classes away from the classroom.) Maximum class size is 25 students.  Depending upon class size, classrooms have either a part-time or full-time Teaching Assistant in addition to the Lead Teacher.
We are looking for full-time teacher, to begin August 2014.  We expect teachers to understand the social needs of children, have strong communication and organizational skills and be open and motivated to work collaboratively with the entire Aurora community.  Submit cover letter and resume to  Submission deadline is March 31, 2014.  No phone calls please.
