The College Preparatory School

The College Preparatory School, an independent high school in Oakland, California, seeks a full-time Visual Arts / Photography  teacher beginning in August of 2019.  Typically, this position entails teaching four sections of a mix of photography and other visual arts. Candidates should be eager to embrace spirited intellectual challenges in a rich academic environment that highly values equity and inclusiveness.

Qualifications and desired characteristics:

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in the Visual arts
  • Three to five years experience teaching at the secondary or college level
  • Passion for working with high school students
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor
  • A strong interest in working in a multicultural community

The College Prep Arts Department offers a variety of courses in the Visual, Musical, Vocal, Dance and Dramatic Arts. Students are required to take a minimum of two years of arts courses for graduation; the majority takes more. Other than in Orchestra and Jazz Band, student enrollment in Arts  classes is kept low in order to maximize student participation and engagement. The Arts Department actively cultivates and enjoys a culture of innovative collaboration and collegiality among its members and students.
