We seek a team member who is:


  • A talented, student-centered + inspiring teacher + artist
  • Eager to implement lessons based on SFS Mission and SFS Educational Philosophy
  • A passionate educator experienced (3-5 years experience in Grades 5-8 preferred) in guiding students to develop artistic skills using a wide variety of materials, methods, and art-making approaches 
  • Experienced with or interest in learning maker, media + electronic arts
  • Experienced creating classroom environments with structure + emotional safety for students to take creative risks
  • A culturally competent, engaged community member
  • An excellent communicator + collaborator 
  • A stand-up comedian…or at least has a good sense of humor


The Work

  • Inspire, promote, + develop the artistic, creative + expressive potential that exists in every student
  • Implement a visual arts program that builds fundamental skills, exposes students to a wide variety of artistic mediums and approaches, and celebrate SFS artistic traditions while also working to envision new ones
  • Teach 6 hours of art weekly to 6th to 8th grades through two, 55 minute classes to each section each week
  • Co-teach two 45-minute 5th grade visual arts classes with the Lower School Art Teacher each week
  • Work closely with the Director of Design, Engineering, and Technology to integrate maker, media + electronic arts
  • Collaborate with Upper School (5-8) teachers to continue existing interdisciplinary project opportunities, and to develop new ones
  • Maintain fluency with technology and digital citizenship
  • Continue to develop relevant professional knowledge and skills, particularly as related to academic and cultural competencies
