Overview of Position
The Berkeley School, a progressive independent school in the East Bay portion of the San Francisco Bay Area, seeks a full-time faculty member to join our multicultural, learner-centered community as an assistant teacher in a third grade classroom. Candidates must have a B.A. and a commitment to the teaching profession, with some experience working with elementary aged children; candidates in teacher training programs are welcome.

The teacher in this position, through mentorship with the lead teacher, will assist in teaching reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, social/emotional learning, social justice/anti-bias, and service learning. They assume duties including recess and lunch supervision and attend meetings during the day and after school.

* have familiarity with progressive, inquiry-based pedagogy;
* possess a commitment to equity and cultural responsiveness;
* communicate effectively with a diverse group of students, colleagues, and families;
* show comfort with technology use.

Founded in 1964 as Berkeley Montessori School, The Berkeley School is an intentionally small school of 287 students from early childhood through middle school. We focus on developing academic and life skills in joyful, rigorous learning environments deeply rooted in civic engagement.
