Reports to: Lower School Division Head and Head of School


Primary Responsibilities: Classroom instruction in Lower School classrooms; development of curriculum, materials and resources; integration with Lower School curriculum areas and teachers; collaboration with colleagues to design experiences for students; communication and partnership with parents

Hours/Classification: Full Time, Exempt

There is a commitment to passionate engagement with both the art and science of teaching.  Hamlin teachers are caring, compassionate, collaborative, and are dedicated to the education of girls and to the integration of 21st century essential capacities into lesson design. While literacy and numeracy instruction are the primary responsibility of the head teacher, the social/emotional curriculum is also an area of direct instruction and holds a place of prominence in Lower School classrooms.


  • Teach with an understanding of the growth and development of Lower School girls
  • Demonstrate strong cultural competency skills
  • Provide instruction in language arts, mathematics, social studies, social/emotional, and anti-bias education
  • Assume primary responsibility for instruction and care for a homeroom of girls
  • Work collaboratively to provide differentiation
  • Implement curricula as identified in the Curriculum Guide
  • Communicate and collaborate with other faculty and staff regarding each girl
  • Assess student progress using a variety of methods
  • Communicate regularly with parents about the program and student progress including parent conferences, report cards, open house events or curriculum showcases
  • Attend Student Services Meetings for collaborative discussion and sharing of student concerns
  • Identify materials, resources, and technology needs for program
  • Include use of appropriate technology tools and resources for instruction
  • Create and update web page (s) and blog (s) as required (currently monthly and weekly)
  • Participate actively in faculty meetings, admissions and other school events
  • Pursue relevant opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Supervise students in other roles such as recess, lunch, field trips, etc.
  • Participate in planning and chaperoning of 3rd and 4th grade outdoor education trips (if teaching 3/4)
  • Perform other duties consistent with the above responsibilities
