The Crowden School seeks a part-time 6th and 8th Grade Math Teacher to begin in Fall 2022.

The Crowden School, a coeducational day school for grades three through eight, provides a distinguished education with chamber music at the core. Founded in 1983 by Scottish violinist Anne Crowden, The Crowden School is the flagship program of the Crowden Music Center, a non-profit organization that combines music and education to nurture, develop, and inspire students of all ages. Altogether, Crowden serves an annual audience of 12,000 with a rich array of music classes, workshops, events, and concerts.

Job Summary
The Crowden School is seeking a dynamic and collaborative math teacher with an understanding of and passion for teaching middle school-age students.

The Middle School Math Teacher will be responsible for designing and delivering a project-based science and math curriculum appropriate to the needs of intelligent and inquisitive 6th and 8th graders, and aligned with common core standards. Crowden School teachers are expected to differentiate their lessons, such that students are appropriately challenged within their developmental level.

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise and enthusiasm for the subject matter, strong classroom management skills, and a willingness to work as part of a team. Math classes meet 5 times per week in 45-minute periods.

This is a half-time position. Candidates who are interested in full-time work may be considered for supplementary administrative duties to create a full-time position.

Schedule will be determined by mutual agreement with the Principal. The position will begin on August 22, 2022.

Essential duties and responsibilities for the teaching role include, but are not limited to:

·      Teach 6th grade math using the CPM program and supplementary materials to support the learning needs of the class. Broadly defined, the curriculum includes course-level mathematical concepts and skills introduced and reviewed through problem-solving sets and hands-on activities.
·      Teach 8th grade algebra using the McDougal Littell textbook as a basis.
·      Develop lessons that support and extend the students’ understanding through team activities and whole-class lessons.
·      Differentiate instruction as required to teach to a range of intelligences and learning styles, applying a variety of assessments to measure student mastery and progress.
·      Create an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment where each voice is celebrated.
·      Be attuned to the specific learning needs and social and emotional development of each student.
·      Employ age-appropriate classroom management techniques.
·      Communicate effectively with students and parents.
·      Participate actively in department, grade-level, and faculty meetings as scheduled.
·      Supervise children during lunch and/or recess, as assigned.
·      Maintain up-to-date inventory of instructional materials.
·      Maintain professional standards of conduct, respect, and collegiality.
·      Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
·      Bachelor’s degree in math or a related subject.
·      Teaching credential desired but not required.
·      Experience with standards-based curriculum
·      Classroom teaching experience with middle schoolers.
·      A passion for interacting with middle school students in and outside of the classroom
·      Ability to differentiate instruction to address the needs of all students.
·      A commitment to collaborating with colleagues to build and sustain the school community
·      Excellent communication skills and commitment to keeping parents informed and engaged.
·      A sense of humor and a “can-do” attitude
·      Employment dependent on satisfactory completion of background check and TB test.

Full-time Equivalency: 53%

Compensation
$33,579 with the possibility of additional pay for additional duties.
