Position: K-6 Science and 6th Grade Math Teacher
Start Date: August, 2025 start; (paid) advanced planning meetings required
Status: Regular, full-time, salaried, exempt 10-month position
THE OPPORTUNITY:
For over 40 years, Crowden has been transforming lives through music and education. We are seeking a dedicated educator to lead our K-6 science program through inquiry-driven exploration and teach 6th grade mathematics using the CPM curriculum within our chamber music inspired educational environment.
This teacher will join a vibrant community of students, teachers, and musicians who believe in the power of collaborative learning to shape young minds and build inclusive communities. As a key member of our academic faculty, you will inspire scientific inquiry and mathematical thinking while embracing Crowden’s unique approach to education that values collaboration, leadership, and individual responsibility. While our academic and music programs operate as distinct areas with specialized faculty, all staff embrace chamber music principles in their approach to teaching and learning.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
As the K-6 Science and 6th grade Math teacher, you will:
- Help develop and implement an engaging, inquiry-driven K-6 science curriculum that aligns with Next Generation Science Standards and Crowden’s mission
- Design hands-on science learning experiences that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific literacy
- Manage science materials and equipment
- Teach 6th grade mathematics using the CPM curriculum, emphasizing collaborative problem-solving, mathematical discourse, and conceptual understanding
- Create a classroom environment that embodies the chamber music values of collaboration, leadership, and individual responsibility
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and styles
- Assess student progress through a variety of appropriate methods
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues about student growth
- Coordinate with grade-level teachers and music faculty to support cross-curricular connections while maintaining appropriate specialization
- Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
- Contribute to a positive school culture that emphasizes growth, creativity, and inclusion
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Mathematics, Education, or relevant field
- Teaching credential or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years experience teaching science and/or mathematics at the elementary or middle school level
- Demonstrated expertise in inquiry-based science instruction and NGSS implementation
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn CPM mathematics curriculum and its collaborative learning approach
- Strong classroom management and differentiation skills
- Experience with project-based and student-centered learning approaches
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Love for and appreciation of music (musical training not required)
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning community
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Science, Mathematics, Education, or related field
- Experience teaching across multiple grade levels
- Specific training or experience with CPM mathematics curriculum
- Background in STEM education initiatives
- Experience in collaborative teaching models
- Understanding of how chamber music principles can inform educational practices

Salary Information – $76,000 – $80,000, depending on experience
