Position Overview
The Academy School, an independent K–8 school in Berkeley, is seeking a full-time French Language Teacher for a mid-year start in January 2026. This is a specialist position serving students across multiple grade levels, with final assignment determined by experience and program needs.
We are looking for a warm, skilled educator who brings both linguistic fluency and a love of teaching. The ideal candidate creates engaging, developmentally appropriate language experiences, builds strong relationships with students and families, and works collaboratively within a small, mission-driven school community.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver French language instruction across K–8 grade levels
Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned curriculum and lesson plans
Differentiate instruction to meet a range of language acquisition levels and learning profiles
Implement documented accommodations and classroom supports with consistency and care
Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialist colleagues
Communicate regularly and professionally with families
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide events
Contribute to a school culture centered on kindness, curiosity, and academic excellence
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; teaching credential or Master’s in Education preferred
Native or near-native French proficiency required
Experience teaching French in a K–8 or similar setting strongly preferred
Familiarity with communicative language teaching approaches
Demonstrated ability to support students with diverse learning needs
Clear, compassionate communication and strong follow-through
Collaborative, steady presence and genuine enthusiasm for working with young learners
