Position Overview
The Academy School, an independent K–8 school in Berkeley, is seeking a part-time Spanish Language Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. This specialist position serves students across multiple grade levels, supporting language acquisition through communicative, culturally rich instruction.
We are looking for a warm, fluent educator who brings both language expertise and a genuine love of teaching. The ideal candidate creates joyful, immersive language experiences that build confidence and curiosity in students at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Spanish language instruction across K–8 grade levels
Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned curriculum and lesson plans
Differentiate instruction to support a range of language acquisition levels
Implement documented accommodations and classroom supports with consistency and care
Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialist colleagues
Communicate regularly and professionally with families
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide events
Contribute to a school culture centered on kindness, curiosity, and academic excellence
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; teaching credential or Master’s in Education preferred
Native or near-native Spanish proficiency required
Experience teaching Spanish in a K–8 or similar setting strongly preferred
Familiarity with communicative and immersion-based language teaching approaches
Demonstrated ability to support students with diverse learning needs
Clear, compassionate communication and strong follow-through
Collaborative, steady presence and genuine enthusiasm for working with young learners
