The Substitute 8th Grade English Teacher will oversee the development and delivery of the 8th grade English curriculum and partner closely with the other middle school English teachers to develop and curate a comprehensive, effective, and cohesive 6-8th grade English curriculum. The teaching load consists of three sections of 8th grade English. The ideal candidate will have experience working with middle school students and appreciate the opportunity to work with this age-group that is experiencing lots of transitions in three short years. They will also be a strong collaborator with other teachers and community members, have a strong commitment to meeting the learning needs of each student, a teaching style that supports differentiated instruction, and an interest in building a community.
As a substitute teacher in the Middle School, this individual will also serve as a co-advisor, and participate in various student and community activities. Additional responsibilities include active involvement in collaborative teacher meetings and supervisory duties.
- Bachelor of Arts
- Classroom teaching experience in English Language Arts, especially at the middle school level
- Natural rapport with children and strong classroom management skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desired Qualifications and Traits
- Masters Degree in specific subject area, Masters in Education, or teaching credential
- Experience with project-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching
- A growth mindset and flexibility to adapt
Schedule and Hours
This is a substitute/leave replacement position beginning February 1, 2021, and tentatively ending March 26, 2021, though these dates are subject to change. Regular hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays).
This position is not benefits eligible and will be compensated through a third party staffing agency.
